Importance of Port Affair Department in the Port Operations
Due to its facilities and strategic position, Shahid Rajaee Port Complex is one of the most important and advanced ports and economic poles of Iran and Middle East. Facilitating loading and unloading operations, providing investment opportunities, and providing logistic and value-added services are of the main goals and objectives of Shahid Rajaee Port. In the Iran’s Perspective Document and Iran’s Development Program, it is anticipated that Iran’s trade will reach to 150 million tons in 2015, from which 53 percent are non-container cargoes.
Although Shahid Rajaee Port is a container port, due to the significant role of export of non-container cargoes in the Iran’s economy and forecasts represented in Iran’s Perspective Document, this port complex plays an important role in the transportation of non-container cargoes.

Establishment of railroads in Shahid Rajaee port complex dates back the primary port’s foundation.
Equipping the port to railroad appliances has been one of the main primary parts of the port construction process, and the railways numbered from 1 to 8 of the port with an 19 km length built during this period.
On March 17, 1995; the largest commercial port of the country connected to the rail network of Iran while the opening of the Bandar-Abbas rail linking to Bafq with the presence of the related time president and the heads of the several countries, including the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union.
This has been the beginning of a major step towards liberating the single-product economy, the connection of the important mines and major economic industries to the most strategic port of the country in addition to provide access to the northern Iran’s neighbors and Central Asian countries to the Persian Gulf.
The total length of the operational rail: 53 km-

The total length of the improved and optimized rail: 46.5 km–

1.At the Berths no.13,14,15(sequentially)RO-RO ships have prior sitting than other ships
2.Except berth no.9 all the ships have been berthed by port side, normally; thus berthing by starboard side at berths no. 6,7,19 and by port side at berths no. 9 depends on the harbor master permit
3.Tankers can be berthed at the berths no. 3,19,20 with the more than announced draught, according to the discharge and loading rate and the low limit tide conditions, as well as harbor master permit
4.Administrative coordination between harbor master and cargo handling department will be necessary for proceedings berthing the ships with over than authorized draught determined for berths no. 13,14,15 according to TPC and discharge and loading rate of these ships
5.The limit 15.5 meters currently is the maximum draught to berthing ships due to the depth of the Shahid Rajaee access channel
6.Mentioned specifications at the related tables may be changed for the reasons of circumstances as new results of hydrography proceedings in the basins and access channel of the port, new Comments of Near-Miss or Marine casualties department, or other Competent authorities
7.Berthing the ships with more than determined length will be done for the container berths no. 4,5,6,7 merely by the harbor master permission
